Luxe with a twist

Hi there twin fin lovers! sorry to disappoint you today but it's another twist on the Luxe design...this time Shaun wanted a thruster and like old mate ...loved the Luxe-twin shape but wan't keen on two fins. I have no fixed ideas on how people should relate to the waves ...I'm just the facilitator that makes sense of what you are trying to achieve in the ocean.... and then make it happen. The great thing about this twin fin design is that it's so incredibly versatile and with a few tweaks here and there, can morph into almost anything. This one was hand painted by me, glassed by Yuki and I and was fitted with a system. Of course I shaped it as well but you probably guessed that already. Sorry for the lack of pics....just the one but sometimes it's worth a thousand words....and that's all I'm going to say today ...Yew

             ....this machine is 5'5'' x 191/4'' x 23/8'' and Shaun is 5'7'' and weighs 70 kgs....

tug deluxe for Martin

Hi there again....just want to show you a custom Tug-deluxe that I made for Martin. This one is a pretty basic board that he will use for those bigger days. There's plenty of thickness in this one for the paddle but I kept it out of the rails so it's stills maintains  sensitivity and bight in the waves face. A single to double concave with flat out of the tail when you need to step on the gas. The rounded pin makes the board feel shorter than it is. A nice even rocker with a little accelerated tail lift gives you a broad sweet spot so your never out of footing and don't have to think about your board. Free and effortless to enjoy the waves with out the hangups. This is just one of the many features that come standard with my boards. :-)

                            tug deluxe

The dims on this Tug-deluxe is 6'3'' x 191/2'' x 25/8''... 33.6 litres... Martin is 5'11'' and weighs 78kgs

Luxe with a tweak

So I have this awesome design that I've been riding for a while now...the Luxe-twin....it's the Ross inspired twinny that I can't seem to ride enough of...well Dan loved the shape but was not so sure of the twin fin thing. After a chat we arrived at the five fin option, something that I initially hadn't considered for this design, though not without merit. I did a similar thing to a Rocket fish design which was originally a twin fin shape back in the day when Rasta was riding for me. I digress...Dan was looking for something that would ham it up on the less than favourable days but would still serve it up when the waves were ideal. Custom shaped, hand painted and glassed by Yuki and I.... bespoke leggy loop and all.

 ......... the dims on this puppy...5'5'' x 19'' x 21/4'' ..Dan is 66kgs and about 5'9''.....

...earlier on I made Dan a tug deluxe for the step up days....here he is in Fiji giving it some stick

keeping hamish happy....

My good friend Hamish was in need of revamping his tired quiver to get the stoke on for this summer. The first board that he ordered for his every day basic was the tug deluxe...a nicely well rounded board suited to performance surfing in a variety of waves. This board has a flattish deck with a bit of hidden volume and padding for the days when your not really feeling it but still refined in the rail so you can give it some when you need to. Single double concave to a vee out the tail to keep you sparking along. The Second was a Slipper single fin. Just a step up for the points on the sunny coast for wave domination and sheer surfing pleasure! I hand painted them inspired by the Fender sunburst..... blew Hamish's mind when he saw them....one happy lad for the up coming season.

Hamish weighs in at 87 kgs and is 6'4'' tall.

The Slipper is 6'8'' x 21'' x 3'' and is 47 liters....plenty of paddle and line up dominance....

  the Tugdeluxe....6'5'' x 191/2'' x 2/12''....34.1 litres

custom handshaped twin fin for ross

Not so long ago Ross from the Sunhouse was threatening me to shape him a twinny. It was a colab effort with him in the bay providing direction and feedback, as I handcrafted his new sled. I really prefer working this way as I feed off the customer's enthusiasm and that definitely transfers into the shape. ....fluted flyers....flattened deck....slight concave feeding a double to a vee out the tail.....bit of a beak on the nose....down foiled rails....Justin fin in the tail....you know Justin?  Justin Case....So this one was hand-shaped from scratch at my bay in the Sunhouse, taken home to my factory in the hills where I glassed it with a white pigment tint, sanded it, hand painted the logo and finished her off for him.....here's how she looks.....

......not sure of the dims on this one as I forgot to write them down anywhere......Doh!!!

                                                      ....at a guess...5'8''x19''x 23/8''

                                                                    happy camper!

Welcome Beau Nixon to the Phanteam

Most of you know me by now and realise that I am not your conventional shaper/board builder. I love design and using my skills to help people achieve their goals no matter what their craft.....I guess I embrace the multicultural aspect of surfing, and anyone who loves the ocean. One thing that I enjoy is working closely with individuals who are passionate about their boards, want to surf better and have fun doing it... Beau Nixon is one such fellow who I have been making boards together with  on and off for the past 5 years. He is a super talented longboarder and in the last few years he has been a top competitor on the professional world SUP tour.... a true champion and 2014 Tweed Coasts sportsman of the year. Recently he decided to reconnect with me with the SUP's and have me exclusively shape them for him...working closely together we have refined some nice boards together and already Beau is seeing the results. This past weekend saw him just get piped into second place in the state titles in atrocious surfing conditions but according to Beau, 'the boards are awesome!' ...Here are a few links to what Beau is up to and some of his achievements thus far.....;link1 link2 link3

Nick and his Friendly Fish

Hello out there in cyber world!...this is a new custom Friendly Fish for Nick who likes surfing smaller boards in all kinds of waves.

He was chasing something with a bit of volume but didn't want to compromise the performance and when he saw the Friendly Fish....well he was hooked.

The Friendly Fish has a flat deck but the rails are still low and foiled and typical of high performance boards. This gives Nick the advantage of being able to bust out the moves while maintaining the luxury qualities of a fish.... the Fouruster fin configuration for optimum functionality.

I custom hand-painted this board for Nick ....something  green and blue and up to you is what he said...This board features a poly propylene tail pad on the deck for added strength and the blue stripe on the bottom is actually high tenacity poly ethylene...we just call it blue nylon.

Nick is about 6' 1'' tall and weighs 92 kgs.

This board is  5'9" x 201/2" x 25/8" and is 35.5 litres.
